Our Memories of Prof. Hans Küng

● In 1995, ISCS published the Chinese translation of two of Prof. Küng’s very popular works. 

 

 

● In March 1996, Prof. LIU Xiaofeng, on Prof. Küng’s invitation, attended a “High-Level Expert Group Meeting” on “In Search of Global Ethical Standards” in Vienna, Austria. After the meeting, Mr. Daniel YEUNG, Executive Director of ISCS, discussed with Prof. Küng ways to promote dialogue between a Global Ethic and Chinese traditional ethics in Chinese academia. Since then, ISCS and Prof. Küng had developed a long-lasting friendship with each other. 

 


● In July 1996, Prof. Küng, on ISCS’s invitation, attended the “Third Postgraduate Summer School on Religion and Culture” at Peking University, and delivered a keynote speech titled “A Global Ethic in an Age of Globalization.” 


 

● In 1997, Prof. HE Guanghu, a close working partner of ISCS, published the Chinese translation of the “Declaration Towards a Global Ethic” as initiated by Prof. Küng.

 

 

● In September 1997, ISCS and Renmin University of China co-organized the “First Symposium on Chinese Traditional Ethics and Global Ethic” at Tanzhe Temple, Beijing.

Participants were all leading scholars in the Humanities.  

 

● In September 2000, ISCS and Renmin University of China co-organized the “Second Symposium on Chinese Traditional Ethics and Global Ethic.” Participants came from different academic institutions, which included Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the Chinese Academic of Social Sciences.



After his trip to Beijing, Prof. Küng visited Hong Kong.

 

ISCS and Hong Kong Baptist University co-organized a special lecture, given by Prof. Küng, on Global Ethic. 


Prof. Küng visited the Institute of Sino-Christian Studies on Tao Fong Shan.

 

 

● In October 2001, ISCs and Renmin University co-organized the “Third Symposium on Traditional Chinese Ethics and Global Ethic.” Participants included leading scholars from Chinese and international institutions. A memorandum was signed after this Symposium.















 


 

● After the Symposium, Prof. Küng attended the Opening Ceremony of the Center for the Study of Morality and Religion at Tsinghua University, and delivered a keynote speech.



 

● In 2001, ISCS published the Chinese translation of Weltethos für Weltpolitik und Weltwirtschaft by Prof. Küng.

 

 

● In 2002, ISCS published the Chinese translation of Projekt Weltethos by Prof. Küng.

 

 

● In 2003, ISCS published the Chinese translation of the renowned work Existiert Gott?, in 2 vols., by Prof. Küng.

 

 

● In April 2008, Mr. Daniel YEUNG, Director of ISCS, visited the Global Ethic Institute in Tübingen, and discussed with Prof. Küng ways to promote Global Ethics in the school curriculum of Hong Kong.

 

 

● From 2009 to 2011, ISCS collaborated with the Hong Kong Institute of Education (now the Education University of Hong Kong) and the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Government in introducing the idea of Global Ethics to the General Education course of the secondary school curriculum (for students of Form 4–6) in Hong Kong. 

A learning resource package was published in 2011 for use by secondary school teachers and students of Form 4–6.

 

 

● In 2013, Prof. ZHANG Hua from Beijing Language and Culture University edited A Reader of Global Ethics. The Appendices include some important documents concerning the development of Global Ethics in Chinese academia. All of these documents were provided by ISCS.

 

 

● In November 2013, Mr. Daniel YEUNG, Director of ISCS, attended a private cocktail party in Tübingen on the occasion of the retirement of Prof. Emeritus Hans Küng. Prof. Küng expressed his deep appreciation for the work of ISCS over the years. 

 

 

● From 2013 to 2015, ISCS collaborated once again with the Hong Kong Institute of Education (now the Education University of Hong Kong) and the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Government in introducing the idea of Global Ethics to the General Education course of both the secondary school curriculum (for students at Form 1–3) and the primary school curriculum (for pupils at Class 4–6) in Hong Kong. 

Two learning resource packages were published in 2016 for use by secondary school teachers and students of Form 1–3, and primary school teachers and pupils of Class 4–6.

 

 

● On April 6, 2021, Prof. Küng passed away peacefully at his home in Tübingen. Farewell, old friend, we will meet each other again!
